4 Days to Go

Sorry about the lack of posts lately. This taper couldn't have come at a better time. Work has ramped up to completely consume my life right now and I haven't had any time for running. Not even a quick 30 minute run. I finally had time on my lunch break yesterday to tackle a nice run in our "fall" weather here. I was excited to lace up my shoes and get outside. My legs have been antsy! However, once I started running - they were mad! It had been a full week since my last run and I could tell. :(

My calves were extremely sore and no amount of walking or stretching was helping. I tried to take it as a nice, slow run, but even that hurt. It was everything I had in me to do 3 miles. I made it back up to the gym in my office building and hit the foam roller. I have no time to get a massage between now and the marathon, so rolling will have to do. I feel kind of defeated. I was feeling pretty empowered after my awesome 16 miler, but this time off has really taken a toll on me. I'm hoping that the rolling and stretching will be enough to complete my marathon on Sunday.

Ready or not, San Fran here we come!


  1. Hang in there!! You are almost there! I know how you feel - my run yesterday left me feeling similar. How can my body freak out now, we are so close to the finish line?!! Just take the next few days to rest and hydrate and trust that your legs will knw what to do on sunday! :)
